Casiotone for the painfully alone, and yes that is their title. Seen it shortened to CFTPA, but that doesn't quite roll off the tongue either. Mainly using cheap keyboards combined with an almost monotone voice, this band produces such unique and surprisingly irresistible sound. Also, their ability of storytelling though songs is amazing. Unfortunately they performed their last concert on December 5, 2010. But don't worry, just because they got rid of that long, pretentious name doesn't mean they stopped making music. The lead singer has a new project called Advance Base. Stay tuned, as they should be showing up soon in my "Music to my ears" section.

SATURDAY AUGUST 19th 2012

I loved this little collection of images left over from our zoo trip! The carousel was really quite beautiful. When you actually think about it, the carousel is something that has stood the test of time. Like myself as a child, my parents and grandparents probably enjoyed this same simple pleasure. I think everyone can remember waiting in line for the carousel to come to that slow stop, all the while your scoping out each animal, trying to decide which one you'll run to. And if you grew up with siblings like myself, you more than likely decided you wanted the same one they did. Then once the ride started, (even though everyone was going the same pace and in a complete circle,) it seemed like a race to that invisible finish line.
Lastly, the image of Juan in the tiger mask really makes me love him even more. He insisted on buying something, anything from the gift shop, while I continually complained that everything was made in China. God, sometimes we're so opposite it hurts, but I must say we always make each other laugh.
~Love you dear! Thanks for the amazing day.

SATURDAY AUGUST 18th 2012

My husband made a mixed CD for our long car rides home, and Anya Marina was one of the tracks. This "Whatever you like" song is a cover to a more popularly known rap song. The first time I heard it, I asked what the hell were these lyrics. Anyways, this Portland, Oregon singer songwriter has been gaining more traction, and was (sad to report, due to my strong hatred for anything having to do with that horrible book series, and equally horrible movie) featured on the Twilight New Moon soundtrack.

SATURDAY AUGUST 18th 2012

Juan and I visited the Milwaukee Zoo on Saturday and were taking zillions of photos of all the animals on exhibit. The movement of the animals is really quite amazing to see in person. If you look at my image of the cheetah (the fastest animal on earth,) the background is blurred. It took me 8 shots to get that one, only because she was pacing back and forth at such an amazing speed, I couldn't keep up. Makes me really appreciate all those wildlife photographers who spend countless amounts of time waiting for the perfect shot.
The other breathtaking moments really came from the coloring of the animals. The second to last photo of the fish and all its coral was taken by Juan and this one is definitely my favorite.
FYI, Juan and I were photographed by the local radio station 106.1. Click on the link below to see us:

SATURDAY AUGUST 11th 2012

I was lucky to be visiting my hometown of Elmore, Ohio when "The Moving Wall" was showcased in the downtown park area. For those of you who don't know, this half size replica is one of two that has been touring the country for over 20 years. This is a wall built by Vietnam Veterans who wanted to give others who could not travel to Washington D.C. the opportunity to pay their respects.
A couple things got me doing some more research when I arrived back home. I had overheard a veteran telling someone that he had brought a bottle of beer to place next to his buddy's name, saying "It was the drink we never got to have together."
The wall had small tokens, photographs, letters, etc. laying along the bottom, this immediately got me thinking, where do these items go? Answer: Items are gathered each day, they are then taken to an archive collection for identification, tagging and storage. The archive collection is not open to the public.
Another question while looking through the endless 58,261 names is what each symbol means after every name. Answer: The diamond denotes that the persons death was confirmed, the cross denotes that the person was missing at the end of the war and has yet to be accounted for.
Other interesting facts:
*The names are arranged in chronological order, according to the date of casualty. The designer did this so that the sequence allows for members who have died together to forever be linked.
*There are 8 women's names listed on the wall. All nurses, 7 from the Army and 1 from the Air Force.
*There are at least 38 names on the wall of individuals who are still alive today. These names are the result of clerical errors listing them under fatalities by the Department of Defense. These names cannot be removed from the wall.

I attended this wall with my Aunt Nan, my cousin Kelly and her 15 year old daughter Sylvia. We were all truly moved by the experience.
I would highly recommend seeing this to anyone in the touring area. For the current tour schedule Click here
